Russell and Violet
61Russell and Violet
I wrote a song a few years back called,"Russell and Violet." I wanted to try and get to the heart of love. I think that maybe, love is overlooked so often in life and is rarely recognized. I've known of people who separated from wonderful people....it was hard to understand and yet later on, there were always regrets.
I believe that too often....people look for love and don't find it because they have no idea what love is. Money....a sexy body...social status....all of these things are nice but have nothing to do with love. Love is in the heart of a person who is willing to share that love.
Perhaps...if we could see the soul of a person....we could learn about the beauty of love...the riches of love and best of all....the grace of love.
Russell sat by the river
looking down at a rippling moon
sad from what he could not give her
oh, she said no too soon
he became loved and wealthy
helps out the lame and poor
she found a man with money
but got nothing more
Chorus
(the greatest lesson I've learned so far
I've come to understand
If you don't have gold in your heart
It's useless in your hand)
Violet sat by the river
looking down at a rippling sky
sad, her fiance had left her
waiting alone there in white
she became loved and wealthy
helps those disabled like her
he found the perfect body
but brought him only hurt
Chorus
the greatest lesson I've learned so far
I've come to understand
if you don't have gold in your heart
it's useless in your hand
now Russell and Violet share two golden bands
I recorded the song one late night in Nashville.....one of the last songs I wrote there.

Very nice. My son is a singer and a musician. He'll never be big but he'll never be without his music. I'll be seeing him tonight playing in a bar in Springfield, VA.

That is so cool, Tom! Well done! Now, why was it not top of the pops or sund by the American Idol finalists?
