The Impossible Peace Sign Puzzle/ Continuous Line

65

By Tom Cornett

Make a peace sign on a piece of paper and try to draw a constant line across

every section without crossing twice. I've tried it a few hundred times with no luck. Maybe it can't

be done?

Lets take Israel and Palestine for example. Both want peace. Both need Peace.

Every time diplomacy seemingly glues them together...they become ripped apart

again by violence or political power shifts. They keep trying to draw the

perfect line through the peace sign.

I have always wondered what would happen if a Palestinian mother and a Jewish

mother sat and talked for a time about the loss of their children. Simply

describe their children to each other...no talk of war or politics.

Have fathers and grandfathers do the same. Some might wind up screaming,

cursing and even have a violent confrontation. Some might wind up crying and

forgiving.

No matter what religion one follows....we are all...first...human beings. We

weren't born with religion. In my humble view....all of the religions in the

world are not worth one drop of innocent blood caused by religion itself.

How can one praise a God while picking up the sword of hate, along with a

shield of self righteousness to battle and kill a fellow human being?

"Peace by Strength" will work for a while until the weak become strong or the

strong become weak. One tiny germ can wreak havoc and even kill the strongest

man.

I believe that peace can only come through understanding and true tolerance. Too

many people pay lip service and hide their real feelings. The truth is always

the best place to start. If you hate it...state it.

It is really, fairly simple. List the things you hate about a person, race or

religion. If you can even start that list...welcome to the human race!

List the things you could love about the same person, race or religion.

If you could love anything about them...you can love them.
If you could hate anything about them...you can hate them.

Peace isn't some profound political formula waiting to be solved. It has

become the squawk of opportunistic, world stage politicians. The real peace is

cried for by mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, sisters, and brothers who have

lost loved ones or have been wounded in war and violent acts of crime. They understand far more......

than those of us who haven't.

Maybe peace would come if we used the words, ours instead of mine....share instead of

want.....heal instead of profit....purpose instead of hand out....more love instead of more stuff.

Peace is a lot like the puzzle I scribbled above. We draw the lines until it

stops. We keep working at it....when all we need to do is let it work in each

of us.

Peace to all.

Peace is worth it.

"Peace by Strength" will work for a while until the weak become strong or the strong become weak.

That is an amazing quote. I have written that down and stored it away.

Rated this up. Great job.

Tom,

Great tribute to peace. All it takes is understanding but mostly "lack of violence"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is simply wonderful! Thank you so much for this inspiring Hub. I particularly liked: "all of the religions in the world are not worth one drop of innocent blood caused by religion itself."

And religion does seem to play a role in almost all conflicts, doesn't it? "How can one praise a God while picking up the sword of hate, along with a shield of self righteousness to battle and kill a fellow human being?"

That is so true and so beautifully stated.

Thanks so much for this awesome Hub.

Love and peace

Tony

The photo of William is a treasure. You first mentioned Palestine and Israel. At the same time Britain gave land to Israel, they gave land to Palestine. And no, there's never been a state of Palestine, the Holy Land has always been occupied by ruling powers. Anyway, the Palestinians chose to go to war rather than becoming a state. Since then, Palestine has become a rallying point for Islam, and there won't be peace because Palestine is worth more without it.

Thanks Tony....My favorite biblical statement,"How can you love God who you haven't seen when you don't even love your brother who you have seen."

This is a very good Hub. It causes me to think... and feel. I think we should all pray for the peace of Jerusalem, like we are instructed to do in the Bible. (I have faith that someday there will be, "peace on earth")!

Thank you for the look at the bigger picture of individual lives that are effected by all the violence war and hatred brings to this old world.

I can't even imagine what it must be like to suffer through the fear and dread of living in such a conflicted region.

This is a very thoughtful Hub, and I love the illustration of the lines through the peace sign. It's a VERY GOOD illustration of the "peace process" that has been going on in the middle east for so long. Thanks for sharing.

Cathi...thank you...I've always believed that it is the individual lives that are effected most and can do the most.

Very well written and so many good points. If only the world could see each others hearts and not the focus of the argument or differences. Thank you for a wonderful Hub!! And I have not been able to make the peace sign in just a few strokes.

Isn't it amazing that after all these years, and having been through all manner of inhuman behaviour, how few people seem to strive for peace?

I agree with you full heartedly Tom, it seems that more killing has happened in the name of God than for anything else. Give peace a chance this soldier is tired of war.
